Nederkogl (3,163 m)


Nederkogl ist Sölden's local mountain. It stands sentinel at the end of the valley, just above the fork in the Ötztal Ache. A steadily climbing trail via Lenzenalm and Lake Nedersee takes you to the peak where you are rewarded with awe-inspiring views of the mighty three thousand meter high peaks of the Ötztal and Stubai Alps.

  • from main road (1,670 m): 4 hrs, return 3 hrs

Grieskogl (2,911 m)


From Hochsölden along a gravel trail to the top station of the Rotkogl chairlifts. Here you continue along a footpath which, in the upper part, uses steel ropes for protection. From the peak you enjoy superb views of Geigenkamm. If you are lucky you might spot mountain goats or even ibexes.

Söldenkogl (2,902 m)


The view from Söldenkogl of Sölden and the majestic peaks of the Ötztal Alps rewards for the strenuous ascent. Those who prefer it a bit more leisurely can take a taxi to Kleble Alm or to Fiegls Gasthaus.

  • from Kleble-Alm (1,983 m): 3 hrs, return 2 hrs
  • from Fiegls Gasthaus (1,956 m): 3 hrs, return 2 hrs

Rotkogl (2,947 m)



From Rotkogljochhütte (2,660 m) it's about an hours' walk along a well signposted and maintained path to Rotkogl. Alpine hiking experience and surefootedness required. The peak affords fantastic views of the Stubai and Ötztal Alps and the crystal clear Lake Schwarzsee.



Hangerer (3,021 m)


The trail leads through lush patures to Schönwieshütte. Here you continue through rock strewn grass slopes to the peak of Hangerer. 300 m below the peak you have to cross a snow field. The ascent is a bit stenuous but well worth it for the magnificent views of the Ötztal and South Tirolean Alps.

  • from Schönwieshütte (2,262 m): 2.5 hrs

Kreuzspitze (3,457 m)


Kreuzspitze is one of the highest peaks of Ötztal Alps which can be reached via a footpath and without having to cross any ice fields. From the peak you enjoy superb panorama views of all surrounding glaciers and huts.

  • from Vent (1,900 m): 5 hrs, return 4.5 hrs
  • from Martin-Busch-Hütte (2,501 m): 2.5 hrs, return 2 hrs

Wildes Mannle (3,019 m)


Wonderful hike from Breslauer Hütte or Stablein Alm. The Wilde Mannle is a mountain consisting of primary rocks and gravel; therefore both ascension trails use fixed steel ropes for protection. From the wooden summit cross you can see the Rofenkar glacier, the Wildspitze, and the Ötztal and Stubai Alps.


Walking time:

  • from Breslauer Hütte (2,848 m):  2 hrs, return to hut 1,5 hrs
  • from Stablein Alm (2,364 m): approx. 2 hrs, return 1.5 hrs

Wetterkreuz (2,591 m)

Starting point:
Gondola station, Oetz-Hochoetz mountain lifts. Further on to Bielefelder Hütte (2,150 m), along a well maintained hiking trail to Wetterkreuz peak (2,591 m). Two alternatives for the descent:

1) Back on the route to Roßköpfe, a small footpath leads to Balbachalm (surefootedness required!). From Balbachalm mountain hut via "Höhenweg" high altitude trail to Kühtaile Alm and back to the top station.

2) From Wetterkreuz back to Bielefelder Hütte and further on to Acherbergalm mountain hut - from here you return to the top station of the gondola.

Gamskogel (2,813 m)

Starting point:
Gries near Längenfeld (1,570 m)

From the village center of Gries in southern direction to the edge of the forest, across Fischbach brook. A steeply winding trail leads to the crossing of a forest road. Across the picture-book stone pine forest to lovely Nisslalm mountain hut (,2051 m). From Nisslalm you head towards beautiful pasturelands, through splendid gorges and gravel areas to awe-inspiring Schönrinnensee, a mountain lake at 2,353 m. Alternative route: from Nisslalm via green pasturelands along a slightly ascending trail to the edge of Milchenkar cirque. A steep, terraced slope takes you to the north-eastern side of the peak. You must conquer varied blocks of rocks! From the peak you enjoy stunning panoramic views of the Ötztal and its surrounding mountain ranges.

Descent: back to Nisslalm hut and Gries or - alternatively - back to Burgstein near Längenfeld along the footpath which branches-off at about 10 walking minutes from the peak.

  • from Nisslalm: 2.5 hrs
Hahlkogel (2,655 m)

Starting point:
Huben near Längenfeld Parking: football field (close to campsite)

A newly built footpath takes hikers towards Alpengasthof am Feuerstein for approx. 45 minutes. Shortly before you reach the mountain restaurant you turn right into the steeply ascending trail. Soon you get to the first Alpine meadows and you reach the treeline. A rising footpath leads up to Hahlkogelhaus (2,042 m). From Hahlkogelhaus you walk through almost flat grass slopes. Continue further on to small rock faces (exposed in the upper part!) before you reach Hahlkogel, a marvelous cone-shaped peak and one of the valley's most beautiful vantage points.

Descent: back to Hahlkogelhaus, then via Polltalalm mountain hut down to Huben.

Vorderer Sulzkogel (2,796 m)

Starting point:
Car park Gries, near Längenfeld


Following Sulztal valley and its rushing glacier brook, you walk along a broad cart trail to Sulztalalm hut (1,898 m). A slightly ascending path takes you to the Alpine meadows of Hintere Sulztalalm and further on to Amberger Hütte at 2,136 m above sea level. Behind the scenic hut you continue across pasturelands to the high Alpine Sulzeck area. A steep route - which is not easy to find - takes you right to the majestic peak of Sulzkogel.
